From the 9th until the 16th of January, 2019, at the Holy Spirit Seminary in Bomana, we had the ongoing formation workshop (retreat) for the young priests (0-5 years) from dioceses of Papua New Guinea. The workshop was subsidised by Aid to the Church in Need.

We had participants from nine dioceses (Alotau, Goroka, Kimbe, Lae, Madang, Mt. Hagen, Rabaul, Wabag, Wewak, Bereina and Kerema).

The workshop begun with the Eucharist presided over by the rector of the Holy Spirit Seminary. After a dinner we had an orientation and introductory meeting facilitated by the rector and spiritual director of the seminary.

In the following days we had daily morning prayer with mediation, and two talks: one in the morning followed by a group discussion, and one in the afternoon followed by personal reflection and evening prayer with the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. After the dinner we projected some films: on the first day we showed „Pope Francis a Man of His Time (2018)” and then in the following days some chosen religious movies.

We invited nine presenters, who talked on a prepared topic. On Sunday, 13 January, after celebrating the Eucharist in the Holy Spirit Church, we made two visits: in the morning we visited the War Cemetery and Adventure Park. After lunch we went to the Taurama Beach, visited the St. Mary’s Cathedral, the newly opened APEC Centre at Ela Beach and finally we went to the shopping centre Vision City.

On the last day we had as speakers two very important persons for the Church in Papua New Guinea:

— in the morning, the Apostolic Nuncio in PNG & SI, Abp. Kurian M. Vayalunkal;
— and in the afternoon the Archbishop of Port Moresby, Sir John Cardinal Ribat MSC, DD.

On the afternoon of the last day we had an evaluation of the retreat; and in the evening, a solemn concluding dinner with the participation of the Cardinal. All the participants received a Certificate of Participation and a printed group picture.

We received very positive feedback from the priests who were participants and their bishops.
